Should I buy a Saturn ION 2003 or a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta?

Should I buy a Saturn ION 2003 or a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta? The ION is sold for about $ 10,000 and the Jetta for about $ 12,000. Both are used and the same condition. What should I be and why?

Both nice cars, a problem with the Jetta, too expensive to fix out of warranty. The only way to have a VW you have to buy a new warranty.
